On 4th February 2025, Darren Moore and Aaron Welwood of the XX Foundation spoke to former US Senate candidate John Deaton about some of his experience within politics, especially in the realm of crypto and the SEC. They also touch on issues of privacy, including the XX Network’s solution to metadata shredding, its mixnet cMixx.
John Deaton is a former U.S. Marine and seasoned trial attorney. He has emerged as a prominent legal advocate in the crypto space. He gained significant attention for his pro bono representation of over 75,000 XRP holders in the SEC’s lawsuit against Ripple, challenging regulatory overreach and championing the rights of individual investors. Deaton’s commitment to the crypto community led him to establish CryptoLaw, a platform dedicated to providing information and analysis on U.S. legal and regulatory developments affecting digital asset holders. Beyond his legal practice, Deaton’s advocacy extended into the political arena; in 2024, he ran as a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, aiming to unseat incumbent Senator Elizabeth Warren. Despite his efforts, Warren secured her third term in office.
